If the fur is not scaled correctly, go to the Hair and Fur settings, open the tool rollout, activate "Recomb From Splines," and select "hair_spline"; the fur will then adjust to the correct size. If the size is correct, you can delete the "hair_spline" object. Before rendering, go to the "Rendering > Effects" tab, select "Hair and Fur," and choose the "mr prim" mode at the bottom.
