Fashioned in the Louis XVI style, this magnificent French console table has an opulent, yet classical feel. Crafted of luxurious giltwood with a marble top, the half-moon table is bedecked with Neoclassical mounts that accent the table’s intricate design and fluted legs. Crafted with subtlety and a meticulous attention to detail, this table epitomizes all of the best elements of this refined style.
Based on the furniture and decor created during the reign of French King Louis XVI (1774-1789), the Louis XVI style experienced a comeback in the 1860s in Europe and the eastern part of the United States. This revival reintroduced a formal classicism to furniture with an emphasis on simplicity, straight lines and symmetry. Slenderness of proportion was once again favored in furniture, as well as delicate classical motifs and understated luxury.
